Senator Kabiru Marafa said a militia have taken over Zamfara and the state governor, Abdulaziz Yari is aware.

Senator Marafa says he will emerge victorious at the Zamfara state APC governorship primary.

Zamfara lawmaker, Senator Kabiru Marafa, has expressed optimism that he would emerge the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the state.

Unlike many other states, the APC in Zamfara had adopted the direct mode of election to pick the party's flagbearer on Sunday, September 30, 2018.

In a statement, Marafa said he and millions of his supporters in across the state are participating based on the assurances that the exercise would be free and fair.

He had earlier raised alarm that he would not participate in the exercise based on the plan to use the executives in the camp of Governor Abdulaziz Yari to coordinate the exercise.

"We are participating because they have assured us that the primary will be conducted through direct mode,” he said. “Two, they have assured us that the executives in the Governor's camp are not going to coordinate the election.

"Based on these promises made by the party at the National level, INEC and security agencies, we are going into the election. I'm urging all my supporters in across the state to come out to vote for me.

"The way our party members trooped out on Thursday for the grand rally of my campaign, shows that they are solidly behind me. Insha Allah, (by God's grace), I will win, " he declared.

Marafa had promised to end the killings in Zamfara state while ensuring the welfare of the people of the area.
