Okebukola begged the striking lecturers to consider the effort of the minister of education to restore the glory of education in Nigeria.
As ASUU entres day 5, a former Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, NUC, Prof Peter Okebukola has pleaded with the striking lecturers to end their industrial actions.
Okebukola urged the Academic Staff Union of Universities to embrace dialogue adding that the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu had been working to resolve the crisis.
According to Punch, Okebukola begged the lecturers while delivering a lecture at the first Kwara State Education Lecture at KWASU in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Okebukola said, “This is an appeal, that dialogue should be explored to the fullest in resolving the matter and the strike called off to provide an ambience environment for dialogue. You can see the genuineness and commitment of the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, to restoring the glory of our educational system.
“He is the first to ensure that a state of emergency was declared in the education sector. This means that he is aware of what ASUU is clamouring for and he has started taking steps to address many of the issues.”
Recall that the National President, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi of the Academic Staff Union of Universities directed all members of the union on Sunday, November 4, 2018, to begin an indefinite strike following a meeting held at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA.
